A man stood before his wife, gazing at her as if she held everything that he needed in the world.  Dressed in their finest articles, they both looked stunning; him in a sleek, black suit and her in lavish white dress.  The way he looked at her appeared as if he were trying to memorize her face, every contour, every dimple, the curve of her nose, the point of her chin, the shape of her eyes and her long, fluttery eyelashes.  It was as if he was trying to keep a picture of her in his brain that would never fade.

25 years ago, he met the woman that would unknowingly change his life.  They were in line waiting for their mango smoothies to be made, when they accidentally reached for the same one.  Being a chivalrous gentleman, he allowed his newfound acquaintance to take the first one prepared.  He felt an immediate, unique connection to her, one that he’d never felt before with any girl, but he wasn’t quite sure if he should act on it.  Though he found her physically breathtaking, it wasn’t her outer beauty, and though she was well spoken, it wasn’t her intelligence that drew him to her, it was the feeling his heart experienced when he saw her.  He wasn’t too sure what it was about her, but he knew he had to get to know her better.  Whenever they would talk, his heart would do a front flip, and beat so furiously that it felt as though his heart would fly out of his chest, into the world around him.  Just the thought of her made him smile uncontrollably, and her presence made every worry and doubt he had in his mind disappear when they were together.  Before they knew it, two years together passed them by, and by then they had decided to get married.

Now, 23 years later, they remained once again before all of their loved ones, ready to remind the world of just how much love they have for each other.

There he stood, in a chapel full of friends and family, full of nothing but love for the couple that prevailed in front of them.  To begin the ceremony, the preacher exchanged some words of welcome and introduction, which started with “We thank you all for being here today,” and ended with some verses about love from the Bible.  Shortly after, it was his turn to speak, “My dearest, you are my beloved wife and best friend, thanks to that fateful summer day, 25 years ago.  Then, two short years later we made a pledge before God to love one another for life and beyond.  Today I realize that my love for you has only grown stronger as we have traveled down life’s road together. You have been the one to brighten up my day. Thank you for being the most special part of my world. I promise to always be with you. I love you with all my heart, and I always will.”

With just those few phrases spoken, both the audience and the speaker had tears flowing down their cheeks like the flow of a fast-paced river.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the room; no one was able to contain his or her emotion.  After some final exchanges, the preacher resumed to his post and ended the ceremony with some closing words.

With the speaking done, the guests stood up, ready to greet the guests of honor.  Many “Oh, what a touching speech you gave!” and “Oh my!  What a breathtaking ceremony!  I don’t think there was a dry eye in the building.”, were thrown around like a“Merry Christmas” during the holiday season.  Subsequently, the guests made their way to his wife, wishing her well with blessings, before filtering out of the chapel.

Once he was the only one left in the building, he prepared himself to take one final look at his beloved wife.  He turned to her, slid off his ring, kneeled down by her side and delicately placed his wedding band onto her finger, before closing the lid to her casket and saying his final goodbyes.
