This is Matt, my favorite person in the world. The picture is a candid shot that was taken as part of a photoshoot at our friend’s beach house on June 4, 2011, before our senior prom. We have been dating for seven months - although it seems like it’s been a lot longer - and on our monthsary he wrote me this note. It’s up on the wall by my bed, and every morning after I wake up and every night before I go to sleep I re-read it and find another reason to smile.
“I think you’re pretty. Beautiful, actually. The reason I crack up when I hold you tight is because I absolutely can’t believe that the most beauty I have ever beheld all at once is lying right here in my arms, and that she’s staring right back up at me. Beauty in every way possible, too. Beauty in the power to make ordinary me feel like I am someone special and that I am as amazing as you. Beauty in the ability to let others feel its power in your music (which is, you guessed it, beautiful and one of the many pieces of evidence as to how you’re too good to be true). Beauty in the passion you have for your music, even though for some reason you don’t seem to notice - or at least want to acknowledge - your unique gift that sets you so far above all other mere mortals on the beauty scale. Hmm. I just said “your unique gift.” Poor wording, I apologize. I’m the one with the unique gift of pure beauty, the gift of your love. Now, I hope, you will understand and trust me when I say that you’re the most beautiful woman to have ever walked this earth.
So yeah, I think it’s safe to say that you’re pretty. And pretty funny. It’s funny that you would choose me to fall in love with. And even funnier that you gave me, of all people, the unique honor of being a part of all the beauty of your life.”
