The phoenix’s wings are sodden with ash
He made an attempt to shed his dark past
The aura of pain shadows him like a ghost
The girl who won’t leave him is the one that loves him the most.
She extended her heart, soul, and smile
All just in hopes that he’d stay for a while
The beautiful amber burned her, and he pushed her away
But in all the time he was gone, her heart couldn’t stay.
It melted away—but not due to flames—
It was sadness that killed it, there was just too much pain
The amber died away, the danger seemed no more
The time spent apart had made their hearts sore.
A dying fire in his smile; emptiness and hurt
She buried her own pain deep in the earth.
Her smile for his, the most beautiful of trades
One heart pleading to another, willing it to stay.
She hopes for the phoenix, covered in ash
She hopes against his shadowed past
She holds her hope in his smile, the beat of his heart
She hopes their bond won’t be broken apart.
He hopes for changes; prays they exist
He hopes he can feel the same as when they used to kiss.
He yearns for a future with her by his side
He hopes that somehow, he can fix his life…
