I still remember the first time you leaned in to me; ever so slowly, as if you were afraid I would be spooked by any sudden movements— like a deer being approached by a child, both hesitant. We gazed into each other’s eyes, never breaking contact; you weren’t sure whether or not I would pull away, I could see you searching my eyes for an indication, and I searched yours for sincerity. You gave us both time to stop ourselves; you let the moment build up; you let the anticipation take over; you finally reached my lips and gave me one of the most gentle and sweetest kisses I have ever experienced. That moment was pivotal; it was the pinpoint of everything that followed. I felt more than fluttering in my stomach; I felt the bedlam of life slip away, replaced by our subtle breathing and hearts’ synchronised beating; I felt the whole world fall away around us and it was just you and me. Everything fell into place within that moment. And it was when I knew, with absolutely certainty, that I was in love with you.
You made the world stand still for me.
